Nestled in the dramatic landscapes of the Overberg region, Stark‑Condé’s Kara‑Tara vineyard is perched among rocky shale, surrounded by hills and benefiting from a cool climate that is perfect for cultivating elegant Pinot Noir. This single, isolated site is planted with meticulous attention to detail—low yields, selective harvesting—designed to yield wines of finesse and longevity.
Stark‑Condé sources only the best fruit for the Reserve label. The 2022 vintage brought cooler nights offset by warmer days, giving fruit with vibrant flavour and firm natural acidity. The vineyard’s exposure, soils, and rigorous standards combine to produce a wine with both pedigree and character, one that reflects not just the terroir, but the care and craft invested from vine to bottle.
On the nose: dark cherries, pomegranate, violet and sweet spice with subtle earthy undertones. The inclusion of ~20 % whole bunches in fermentation adds a touch of stem‑derived spice and complexity. Barrel ageing in French oak (some proportion new oak) weaves in gentle cedar and toast, enhancing the wine without overwhelming its fruit.
On the palate: medium‑full body, with a core of succulent dark cherry and berry fruit, underpinned by firm yet polished tannins. The wine shows savoury depth, with lift and freshness from its acidity, carrying through notes of spice, perhaps a hint of black pepper, and framed by fine oak. The finish is long, harmonious, and evolving—inviting further ageing.
