Kara-Tara Wines is a South African wine brand dedicated to Burgundian varietals—Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The winery was founded by Rüdger van Wyk, winner of the 2018 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year, in collaboration with José Conde of Stark-Condé Wines.
The name "Kara-Tara" comes from the Khoisan language and means "deep dark shadows." It refers to a small village near Knysna and symbolizes the depth and elegance found in its wines.
Vineyards & Terroir:
Kara-Tara does not own its own vineyards but carefully selects its grapes from cool-climate regions such as Elgin, Overberg, Durbanville, and Stellenbosch. This ensures freshness, fine acidity, and balance in the wines.
Wine Portfolio:
- Chardonnay: Sourced from Overberg, Elgin, and Stellenbosch, this Chardonnay is fresh and mineral-driven, with citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit and subtle almond undertones.
- Pinot Noir: The grapes come from Elgin, Overberg, and Durbanville, resulting in a refined Pinot Noir with classic strawberry, red cherry, and delicate spice aromas.
- Pinot Noir Reserve: This exclusive cuvée is crafted from a standout vineyard in Overberg, offering greater depth, complexity, and structure.
A rosé is not currently produced.
