Nestled along South Africa's picturesque west coast lies Donkiesbaai, a place cherished by the Engelbrecht family for generations. Drawing inspiration from this coastal haven, the Donkiesbaai Grenache Blanc 2024 is crafted with the region's rich culinary traditions in mind, pairing wonderfully with local delicacies like crayfish and Harders. The grapes are sourced from the esteemed Piekenierskloof region, where unirrigated bush vines thrive in deep sandy soils, benefiting from a warm climate tempered by cooling evening winds. Harvested on two separate dates, the earlier pick imparts freshness and acidity, while the later pick contributes structure and concentration. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation and maturation on the lees in concrete eggs, seasoned oak barrels, and clay amphorae, resulting in a harmonious blend of flavors that reflect the unique terroir of the region.
Donkiesbaai Grenache Blanc 2024 captivates with floral notes of jasmine and white blossoms, intertwined with aromas of fresh pear and honeydew melon. On the palate, it is clean and light, offering flavors of peaches and pears complemented by spicy hints of ginger and a creamy texture. The finish is elegant, leaving lingering notes of white peaches and jasmine.
