About the Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG):
Every year in October the CWG auction is being held at Spiers/Stellenbosch. All winemakers of the Guild are allowed to present one or two specific wines made only for this event showing great quality basically to market the wine making capabilities of the estate and South Africa in general. That auction is well positioned in the wine industry and every year wine lovers and collectors from all over the world join the event to bid for the finest South African wines. All these wines are being sold in smaller quantities. Most wines stay in South Africa and they are nearly impossible to find in Europe. Except for the wines we are buying at CWG.
TASTING NOTES:
The inky, dark purple colour of this wine is the first indication of its magnitude. The nose is opulent with a jewel box of vibrant red and black fruit aromas, including plump black cherries, raspberries and hints of prune compote, mingling with red noses and purple violets. The perfumed nose of this wine is created by the tiniest berries grown on a geographical fault line in the vineyard. The intensity of this wine will draw you back again and again as layer upon layer of aromas and flavours unonfold on your palate with each visit, creating a lasting memory of this exquisite Shiraz. This wine deserves to be cellared for a good few years to allow the secondary and tertiary flavours to evolve. If you cannot resist temptation, decant the wine a few hours before serving.
