Vrede Pinot Noir hails from a steep, northeast-facing slope in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley with low vigour, stony, clay-rich Bokkeveld shale soil. Vrede Pinot Noir harvest commenced on the 14th of February. Slightly warmer maximum temperatures were documented during the months of December, January and February, the crucial months leading up to and during harvest. The preceding winter was our wettest in 24 years and was followed by an unusually (and usefully) dry September facilitating healthy, even budding.
The 2022 vintage delivered beautiful, pure, generously textured wines. This vintage is a favourite, showing balanced yields, quality along with quantity - the result of almost ideal weather conditions.
