Description
Ignis Pinot Noir hails from a northern slope in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Organically farmed, the vineyard is cluttered with round pebbles on the soil surface with underlying decomposed granite. Latin for “fire”, Ignis refers to the fact that granite is an igneous rock formation – “from fire to stone”.
Ignis Pinot Noir harvest commenced on the 24th of February. Slightly warmer maximum temperatures were documented during the months of December, January and February, the crucial months leading up to and during harvest. The preceding winter was our wettest in 24 years and was followed by an unusually (and usefully) dry September facilitating healthy, even budding. The 2022 vintage delivered beautiful, opulent, generously textured wines. This vintage is a favourite, showing richness, beautiful balance with an exciting evolution in bottle ahead.
