Le Chant Wine Estate, situated in the picturesque Polkadraai Hills of Stellenbosch, South Africa, represents a fusion of French flair and South African determination. Established on land that once comprised four separate properties, including the historic Eikenhof farm, the estate now encompasses 140 hectares, with 80 hectares meticulously planted with vineyards.
The estate benefits from a unique terroir characterized by gently rolling hills at elevations ranging from 220 to 280 meters above sea level. Predominantly south and southwest-facing slopes are caressed by cooling sea breezes from False Bay and, occasionally, Table Bay. This microclimate, combined with a prolonged ripening period, allows Le Chant's grapes to maintain a vibrant acidity, imparting a distinctive edge to their wines.
Under the ownership of the French Oddo family, who also have wine interests in France and Sicily, as well as other Stellenbosch properties like Taaibosch and Pink Valley, Le Chant is committed to organic farming practices. The vineyards thrive on koffieklip and decomposed granite soils, enriched with natural compost and dense cover crops that rejuvenate the soil and attract beneficial insects. This dedication to sustainability ensures that the grapes express their natural flavors, resulting in wines that are both authentic and reflective of their origin.
