Rust en Vrede is a wonderful example of beautiful landscaping. Nestled in the Helderberge in Stellenbosch, this Estate has made a name for itself and though only being 55 hectores big, every hectare has its owne charme.
Rust en Vrede was founded in 1694 by the governor of the Cape, Willem Adrian van der Stel. Since then Rust en Vrede stood peacefully among the vineyards of Stellenbosch. For more than 30 years the farm is owned by the family Engelbrecht. Winemakers like Kevin Arnold and Louis Strydom affected the style of their wines. Today it is Coenie Snyman who is responsble for the outstanding quality of the Rust en Vrede wines.
With a focus on only red wine and mainly Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot, Rust en Vrede has received many accolades over the years and some were more memorable, like when Rust en Vrede was chosen by President Nelson Mandela to be served at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner or when the Engelbrechts were hosting a lunch for the Queen of Denmark at the Manor House. In addition Rust en Vrede was nominated as the first South African red wine in the Top 100 Wines of the World in 2000 and since 2007 you can dine in one of the best restaurants in South Africa at Rust en Vrede.
This is just to name a few milestones that Rust en Vrede has achieved over the last years.
