Go to the shopNamed for the Eersterivier Hangbrug, the crossing from Stellenbosch town towards the mountain, the Stellenbosch Reserve Hangbrug Chenin Blanc 2025 links a local landmark with a fresh, oak-shaped Chenin. Its fruit was picked by hand and pressed as whole bunches, then fermented in seasoned French oak. Six months in 300-litre barrels, including 15% new oak, add texture. The 2025 season began with a wet winter and continued through mild, steady growing conditions; strong winds and vigorous vine growth kept yields moderate, while harvest was dry.
Stellenbosch Reserve was founded in 2005 by Jean Engelbrecht, owner of Rust en Vrede. What began as a small-batch wine made for friends and restaurants has developed into a neighbouring winery with its own cellar, vineyards and tasting room.
Pour a chilled glass as the day slows: bright fruit, a little floral lift and a refreshing finish make an easy companion for a relaxed meal or a quiet moment outdoors.
TASTING NOTES
A lively mix of pineapple, peach and melon leads, with floral hints of honeysuckle and chamomile. Juicy citrus and pear flavours follow on the palate, where bright acidity keeps the fruit in focus. A creamy nuance and touch of vanilla add softness, before a clean, refreshing finish returns to pear and lemon.
FOOD PAIRING
Serve with grilled prawns and lemon, whose savoury sweetness suits the wine’s citrus lift; roast chicken with herbs, for a gentle match to its fruit and texture; or a mild coconut curry, where the wine’s freshness can balance the creamy sauce.
