Description
Ernie Els Wines Big Easy Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2025 offers a distinctive way to explore the estate’s favoured Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cinsault, drawn from selected, low-yielding vineyards in Stellenbosch. Both varieties were picked by hand early in the morning and pressed as whole bunches, a gentle approach intended to retain their fruit and floral aromas. After fermentation, the wine spent two months on its fine lees in old oak barrels. The result is a rosé with a little more texture alongside its refreshing character.
The Big Easy range takes its name from Ernie Els’s golfing nickname. His winery sits in the Helderberg area of Stellenbosch, where Louis Strydom makes wines with a particular focus on Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery opened in 2005, though its first Signature vintage dates to 2000. That Cabernet heritage gives this pink wine an intriguing place in the collection: familiar in spirit, but made for a lighter occasion.
Bring it to a long lunch, then leave the bottle on the table as the conversation runs into evening. Its fruit and dry finish make the next glass an easy invitation.
TASTING NOTES
Ernie Els Wines Big Easy Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2025 has a salmon-pink colour with a rose-gold glint. Forest berries, tart cherry and cranberry meet softer hints of melon, strawberry and nectarine. The palate is generous with fruit yet stays lively, with a stony impression and lemon-like acidity carrying it towards a distinctly dry finish. There is enough flavour to linger over, and enough freshness to invite another glass.
FOOD PAIRING
Try grilled prawns with lemon: the wine’s acidity cuts through their sweetness. A tomato and herb tart brings out its savoury freshness, while roast chicken with a nectarine salad makes room for its red-fruit character.
