Lievland Vineyards, meaning "Loveland" in Afrikaans, is a historic wine farm nestled in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. With a quirky and colorful history dating back to 1865, Lievland has been home to pioneering spirits who shaped its legacy. From the Latvian baroness who plowed the vineyards with a horse to the visionary winemaker who barrel-fermented Chenin Blanc before it became standard practice, the estate's stories are as rich as its wines. One of its most iconic achievements was the production of a legendary Shiraz that continues to be celebrated today.
The inspiration for Lievland's current wine labels stems from an unusual love story on the estate: a pair of horses adopting a baby springbok. This charming and bucolic scene delighted visitors and captured the essence of Lievland’s spirit—unique, heartwarming, and steeped in heritage.
In 2017, Lievland Vineyards was revived by MAN Family Wines, led by José Conde and Tyrrel Myburgh. After years of dormancy, the "sleeping beauty" estate was rediscovered and meticulously restored. Located along Stellenbosch’s scenic Route 44, Lievland once had a reputation for producing stellar wines. Under MAN’s stewardship, the vineyards were rejuvenated to reclaim their heritage and produce world-class wines.
Today, Lievland Vineyards combines tradition and innovation to craft exceptional wines that reflect the estate's terroir and rich history. Each bottle carries the legacy of its storied past and the dedication of a team passionate about creating wines that are as memorable as the tales they tell.
